Spanish Churros recipe

Item 2 of 7

Churros is a typical Spanish dish. The churros are even eaten for breakfast in Spain, along with a cup of coffee and thick chocolate sauce in which the churros stand upright! And during the Christmas holidays, it is tradition for Spanish grandparents to take their grandchildren for 'churros con chocolate'. The churro is also called the Spanish donut or oliebol. In Spain, churros are traditionally eaten with chocolate sauce, but you can also find them with cinnamon sugar. SPAIN! gives you a number of options in this recipe.

Ingredients (5-6 persons)
For the churros
– 150 ml milk
– 150 ml water
– 150 g flour
– 150 g butter
– 6 eggs
– pinch of salt

To finish
– 150 g sugar
– 3 tablespoons cinnamon

For the chocolate sauce
– 200 gr chocolate
– 150 ml milk

Preparing the churros Churros
In a pan bring the butter, milk and water to the boil. You also add some salt to this. When this boils, add the flour. What is very important now is that you keep stirring so that the flour can be cooked. Mix the flour until all the liquid has been absorbed and a ball of dough is formed. Let the ball of dough cook for another minute. Keep stirring!.

Now put the dough in a bowl and let it cool down a bit. When the dough has cooled slightly, add the eggs one by one, because otherwise the egg will set. When you have added the egg, mix the dough until the egg is incorporated and add the next egg.

When you have added all the eggs, put the dough in a piping bag. Or take 2 spoons and leave the batter in the bowl, this will give you churro balls. Now

heat the oil to 180*C.

Piping bag: Pipe strings of dough into the oil and let them bake until golden brown.
Spoons: Take some dough from the bowl with the spoons and spoon it into the oil, let it bake until golden brown.

When the churros are golden brown, remove them from the oil and drain on kitchen paper.

Option 1: Dip the churros in the sugar.
Option 2: Chop the chocolate into pieces and heat the milk. Add the warm milk to melt the chocolate.

Of course you can also do option 1 and option 2!

Serve the churros on a plate with the chocolate sauce next to it in a small bowl.
